SUU degree plan — Ming

Registered — Fall 2026

Ming's rule on record: assess within 24 hours of classes starting (Sept 2) and drop to two of the three 1st-session upper-division courses if the load is wrong. Free drop (100% refund, no W): Sept 14 for 1st-session courses, Nov 2 for 2nd-session. Banner cap: 18 credits.

What the MCTC posting changes

Minneapolis College's 14 credits were received 08/18 and are expected to post around 8/25. When Degree Works' "Overall Credits" moves 51 → 65, read the new rows: each course either carries a General Education designation (clears its row) or lands as a 1000E elective, like the UMN work did.

Flip the matching toggle on the Scenarios tab. The 52 remaining does not move either way — only which named courses are still owed.

Where the numbers come from

Reference sheet with every row tagged FACT / ASSUMED / CONTRADICTED / REGISTERED: tools/suu-assumed-baseline-2026-08-21.md. Seat counts are as of the capture date; re-check in Banner before registering.

Planner — Fall 2026 → Fall 2027

Only Speedway (SW) sections are shown — Banner refuses SUU Online sections for Speedway students ("Campus Restriction", tested 8/21). Fall 2027 is not published; its slots are inferred from Fall 2025 + Fall 2026 and labeled.

Checks

Course availability (Speedway sections, seats as of capture)

Cells: session · open seats/capacity (waitlist). "inferred" = expected in Fall 2027 from the Fall 2025/2026 pattern. "—" = no Speedway section that term.

Degree and campus options, against the current scenario toggles

Decision on record (8/21): stay on Speedway BGS, General Track until Joey answers the math / override / campus-change questions. BA and BS live on the SUU Online campus ($3,780 flat per semester) and need a campus change; the BA's 16 language credits are live only via a BYU FLATS test-out (Cantonese or Mandarin — Taishanese is not a FLATS language) and purchase of the credits.

    Language facts (BA only)

    • Degree Works BA What-If: "16 Credits in ONE foreign language — CHIN 1010:4850, FREN, GERM, GREK, SPAN". UMN's language waiver does not carry: the BA audit shows 0 of 16 applied.
    • SUU's buy-back route: pass a FLATS exam (BYU, $50 online + $25 SUU proctoring), then purchase the 16 lower-division credits at $6/credit ≈ $196 total. Those 16 credits count toward the 120, which is why the BA + FLATS row above shows fewer credits remaining.
    • Taking the four semesters instead (CHIN 1010 → 2020) is 16 real credits of coursework; whether CHIN has SUU Online sections was not captured — it is not among the 47 courses pulled from Banner. Beginner level is fine: the requirement is credits in one language, not upper-division.
    • Total stays 120 either way. Under the BA the 16 language credits occupy free-elective space (18 free in the Assumed scenario), so they add 0 credits if they fit, and every credit over the free space is extra.
